How to Deactivate Apple ID on Mac, iPhone?

Apple ID is an authentication method used by Apple for iPhone, iPad, Mac and other Apple devices. Apple IDs contain user personal information and settings. When an Apple ID is used to log in to an Apple device, the device will automatically use the settings associated with the Apple ID. If deleting an Apple account is absolutely necessary, then the user can follow the methods described in this article to deactivate Apple ID and delete it completely.

  1. On your Mac, click on the Apple icon in the Menu Bar and open System Preferences.
  2. Click on iCloud.
  3. Click on Sign Out.

Remove Devices Associated with Your Apple ID on the web

  1. Go to appleid.apple.com and sign in with your Apple ID.
  2. If prompted, type in your two-factor authentication code.
  3. Scroll down to the Devices section.
  4. Choose a Device and click Remove.
  5. Click Remove this [Device] to confirm.
  6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until all your devices have been removed.

Remove Devices Associated with Your Apple ID on iOS

  1. Launch the Settings app.
  2. Tap the Apple ID banner at the top of the main Settings screen.
  3. Scroll down to the section with your Apple devices.
  4. Tap on a Device.
  5. Click Remove Account.
  6. Tap Remove to confirm.

Disable Find My Mac

  1. Launch System Preferences.
  2. Click iCloud.
  3. Scroll down to find the Find My Mac option.
  4. Click the checkbox to disable Find My Mac.
  5. Enter your Apple ID password and click Continue to confirm.

Deauthorize Apple ID on iTunes for Mac

Deauthorizing iTunes on the Mac is important because Apple only allows you a certain number of authorized devices that can access your iTunes library. When you deauthorize, you free up a spot for a new computer and/or new Apple ID.

  1. Launch iTunes.
  2. Click Account in the Mac menu bar.
  3. Choose Authorizations and click Deauthorize This Computer…
  4. Enter your Apple ID password and click Deauthorize to confirm.

Sign out of your Apple ID account on Mac

Now we’ll sign out of your Apple ID account on the Mac.

  1. Launch System Preferences.
  2. Click iCloud.
  3. Click Sign Out in the bottom left corner of the iCloud preferences pane.
  4. If you’d like to keep a copy of your iCloud data on your Mac click Keep a Copy, otherwise deselect the data categories and click Continue.

  1. Launch the Settings app.
  2. Tap the Apple ID banner at the top of the main Settings screen.
  3. Scroll down to the bottom and tap Sign Out.
  4. Enter your Apple ID password to confirm.

Deactivate Apple Id on iPhone

  1. On your iPhone or another iOS device, go to Settings > App & iTunes Stores.
  2. Tap on your Apple ID.
  3. Tap on Sign Out.
  4. Now go to Settings > iCloud, scroll down to the bottom, and sign out.

How to Deactivate Apple ID Account?

  1. Open a web browser on your Mac, PC, or iPad, and navigate to privacy.apple.com. The option is not available on the iPhone.
  2. Enter your Apple ID email and password. Answer any security questions or authorize two-factor authentication on another device if prompted.
  3. On the Apple ID & Privacy page, click Continue.
  4. Under Deactivate Your Account, select Get Started.
  5. Select a reason for deactivating your account from the dropdown menu, such as “prefer not to say,” and select Continue.
  6. Review the deactivation terms and conditions, check off the read and agree on the box, and select Continue.
  7. Choose how to receive account status updates: the email used to create the Apple ID, a different email address, or by phone. Then select Continue.
  8. Note down the unique access code, which is needed to contact Apple Support regarding your request, including if you wish to reactivate your account at any time. Then select Continue.
  9. Enter the access code to confirm that you have received it. Then select Continue.
  10. Review the important details one more time and select Deactivate Account.
  11. Your account will be deactivated after seven days as Apple says the process may take up to seven days. Your account will remain active while verification is in progress.
  12. Don’t forget to sign out of the Apple ID on all devices and web browsers before the account is deactivated.
